INTERVIEW WITH SANDER VAN DOORN
Trance DJs: Hello Sander, how are you? To start, I want to thank you, to have agreed this interview. Could you introduce yourself for our readers in a few words?
Sander Van Doorn: Thank you, I’m Sander van Doorn, I’m a Dutch DJ Producer and currently number 13 DJ in the world.
Trance-DJs [Cazis] : How did you think to your nickname?
SvD: It’s not my real name, but my old manager and I came up with it when I started DJing.
Trance-DJs [ReMy] : Why did you choose trance music, and not another style of electronic music ?
Sander Van Doorn: I do try to cross all genres of electronic music, as you’ll hear on my album ‘Supernaturalistic’, but trance is the genre that I naturally fell into and have a passion for.
Trance-DJs [V1nce] : You’ve got your own style in your productions, how did this idea come?
SvD: I just try not to follow any styles or trends, I make the music that I like and that I like to play when I’m DJing, so I don’t really stick to any rules.
Trance-DJs [Kirgu] : Who influenced your youth (DJs, people, community …) and gave you the desire to begin DJing and production?
SvD: Marco V is a great friend of mine and he was an inspiration to me when I first started getting into dance music.
Trance-DJs [V1nce] : How much time do you need to make a production / a remixe?
SvD: It really depends on how quickly an idea comes. Sometimes a remix can be done in a day, sometime it’s weeks – it’s impossible to say until you get into the zone.
Trance-DJs [Cazis] : Could you make a remixe version of any music ?
SvD: In theory, yes you can. But I tend to only remix records that I like, otherwise I will not be inspired at all.
Trance-DJs [Remixx] : What are your most favorite musical artists?
SvD: At the moment I’m listening to Depeche Mode, U2, Killers, and Craig Armstrong (I hear he’s famous in France) – I’ve been lucky enough to remix some of them.
Trance-DJs [Cazis] : Recently, have you discovered a new musical hope?
Sander Van Doorn: Yes I think that dance music is definitely on the up at the moment and there’s lots of fresh and exciting music around.
Trance-DJs [Chris] : What is your best memory as DJ ?
SvD: There have been so many it’s impossible to pick out one memory. When I stop DJing I will have such an incredible memory of all the huge moments I’ve had.
Trance-DJs [Remixx] : Where the crowd is the most receptive during your DJ-Act?
SvD: The crowd make a party special – if they’re not up for it then it’s not a good party. So I just try to work with the crowd and give them what they want. In Ireland they are crazy – you should go clubbing there!
Trance-DJs [Blakers Boy] : What is your best club in Ibiza?
SvD: I have loved playing Cream at Amnesia this year, I’m the new resident DJ there and I’m very proud of that.
Trance-DJs [Kilkikou] : I was lucky to see you last year in September at the Tiësto’s closing party at Privilege in Ibiza. What is the sensation to heat the club during the warm-up before the coming of one of the most know DJ at the world?
SvD: It’s amazing – the club was so busy (I think it holds 11,000 people) and it was a pleasure to warm up the crown for Tiesto.
Trance-DJs [Chris] : This year, you’re gonna partipate to the Nature One festival. What do you think about this 15 years old event?
SvD: I can’t wait to be honest, I’m really looking forward to it.
Trance-DJs [Mild] : Have you ever played in France ?
SvD: Not yet but I hear that my single with Robbie Williams has been doing very well so I should probably come soon…
Trance-DJs [Mild] : What do you think about France and the place of electronic music in our country ?
SvD: France is great for electronic music – there’s a sound that is definitely French and it’s recognisable worldwide. It’s a cool sound.
Trance-DJs [Blakers Boy] : Do you work currently on new project? With somebody else?
SvD: At the moment I’m working very hard on my touring, but I do have a couple of solo projects that I’ve managed to finish in the studio. I hope to start work on a new album at the end of next year.
Trance-DJs : We just wanna thank you for your time, just one word to say for the end? And maybe we’ll meet together next time on Open Air Floor @ Nature One , next month or on www.trance-djs.com
SvD: Thank you very much – I look forward to speaking to you again!
